Nice design. Perhaps you could make the color a tad less even so that it look more like a real burn mark. Right now it looks like we are inside a scanner, looking up at an iron.
Thanks for the suggestion, but can you clarify? You mean make it less brown and more white? I used a few reference photos of actual iron burns to select the colors and this is a tad lighter than the actual burns I've seen.
The colors are not the problem. Discolorations are just not that perfectly even. I can't believe this has received such positive votes. If you look at the link ScooterWerks supplied you'll see how it's supposed to look. To be fair, reproducing something like that is alot easier using rasterized image composing instead of vectors. No offense lucky, but this design is pretty awful. You've made some nice designs, but this is not one of them.
Yes, I was suggesting more complexity in the coloration, such that some areas appear more burnt, and others less burnt... but in a chaotic fashion. I agree that this would be easier with a rasterized image (you could just use the burn tool in photoshop). Perhaps you could "trace" (convert to vector) a rasterized image, and overlay this on top of your nice sharp vector design with the appropriate level of transparency, just to add some texture.
Looking at that other design I totally see how flat mine falls (and that it's clearly not a very original idea). Perhaps I'll try to snazzy it up a bit if my vector drawing skills allow, or just let it fade into the ether.
i'm sure he means like this.

Thanks for the feedback.
